CAR MAINTENANCE TIP OF THE WEEK: Try polishing dry glass with crumpled newspaper.

Newspaper

Unlike paper towels, newsprint does not leave lint behind, and the ink acts as a polish on already dry glass.

Many thanks to Wendy, the author of this wonderful review. Way to go, team!

"John took the time to show us almost all the RAV4s that met our needs and he was very patient when we were debating about the color. He really made the transition from a 2010 RAV-4 to a 2012 RAV-4 as smooth as possible." --Wendy

Toyota developing mood-sensing tecnology

Happycar

Toyota is working on a mood-sensing electronics system that will be able to determine the emotions of the driver. The new system is planned as a safety measure that will customize a vehicle's safety alert times based on the driver's mood. Cameras mounted inside the cabin will be able to interpret a driver's face and react accordingly.

Sad or angry drivers can be distracted or have delayed reaction times, according to research conducted by the automaker. If Toyota's new technology senses a distracted driver, it will automatically adjust the vehicle's warning systems to give the driver more time to react, according to CNET. If the driver's expression is interpreted as neutral, the system will use standard alert times.

The emotion-sensing cameras will be able to judge a person's emotions based on one's position in the driver seat, as well as monitoring 238 points on the driver's face. The system will reportedly be able to determine emotion even if the driver's face is covered by sunglasses or a beard.

The Japanese company has been working on the technology since 2006, but the mood-sensing system is still years away from seeing production.

British car buying guide Whatcar.com quotes Jonas Ambeck, Toyota's senior manager of advanced technology, as saying, "The current, basic research should be complete within two to three years, so some of the elements could start to be available in around six years time. For non-vital applications some basic things could be available earlier though."

Wondering about the MPG of your new Toyota? Piece of cake!

Thank you to the author of this fantastic review!

"The experience was brilliant from the time I started my research on the blue book website. Mr. Lowenhagen called me back promptly, answered all my questions as efficiently and accurately, and made sure that I was recieving the vehicle I requested with all details requested. He was very kind, receptive, and professional over the phone, and was cheerful and a joy to speak with and be around in person. The reception at the dealership was very warm, friendly and very professional. I would reccommend everyone I know looking for a vehicle to not only come to the Mcgeorge Toyota Scion dealership but refer them to David Lowenhagen everytime. My experience buying my first brand new vehicle was the best I could have ever hoped for." --cmarie81

Keep up the great work, team! Way to show our guests what McGeorge Toyota is all about.

"I was in the market for a new Tacoma pickup truck and have never purchased a Toyota before so I wasn't too sure what to expect. Book made my buying experience easy and was a joy to work with. The prices were very competitive and the overall buying experience was simple and painless. I had been a loyal Ford customer for the past 13 years and think I will now be giving my loyalty to Toyota. I look forward to more good experiences with the great employees at McGeorge. Thanks! "--Mike

Toyota 100 Cars for Good: Camp Casey

Enjoy another video about Toyota's 100 Cars for Good! What do you think, fans?

Thank you to the author of this great review!

"Just bought a new 2012 Venza at McGeorge yesterday, and I couldn't be more pleased. My sales guy was the former Eastern European hockey sensation Tom Vecevic. From the moment I got there, Tom greeted me with a smile and made me feel totally comfortable. I had definitely done my research and priced out several dealers before I even step foot in the place, and I knew what I wanted and how much I would "like" to pay. Big Tom treated me with professionalism from start to finish. Also, I know this may be a backhanded compliment, but believe me it's huge compliment. For the first time since I started buying cars, I didn't leave the dealer after my purchase feeling dirty, but rather quite the opposite. These guys were great. they worked with me on the price, and I ended up getting pretty darn close the number I wanted. I highly recommend my main man from Eastern Europe Tom Vecevic. If you want to feel good after buying a car, go to him. The only reason I didn't give McGeorge a 5 star was because after my initial few intro e-mails with their internet sales department, they didn't seem very responsive. So I just went in, and I have to say that I couldn't be happier that i did. I will definitely recommend this place." --Ken

CAR TIP OF THE WEEK: Fix small windshield chips

Ws

Got a rock chip, crack, or ding in your windshield? Bring your car to your dealership’s collision center. For far less cost than replacing the windshield, they can fix chips and cracks, even quite long ones. The repairs not only keep the chips and cracks from spreading and restore structural integrity, they also improve clarity.

Keep up the wonderful work, team!

"I aggressively price shopped my new 2012 Toyota Tundra truck. Because I had researched the truck so much I wanted to complete the transaction by phone; I didn't see the need to go visit the dealer just to talk price. David and I probably spoke 3-4 times by phone and traded e-mails. David was knowledgeable, easy to deal with, not pushy and he came in with an aggressive price. We did everything by phone or e-mail and I knew my price out-the-door before I even set one foot in his dealership. Once I showed up all the paperwork was largely done (with the exception of signatures) and everything was straightforward with no hiccups. I like David and I like McGeorge Toyota and that's why I drove 135 miles to buy a truck from him. I'd do it again tomorrow." -- Northern VA

Toyota 100 Cars for Good: Carolina Canines for Service

Find out how Toyota's 100 Cars For Good Program is helping to give people their independence back.

What a stellar review. Keep up the great work, team.

"I had my car serviced today at McGeorge --That's why I'm posting this review now. I purchased my Camry from McGeorge Toyota about 7 years ago. I was impressed from the beginning as the sales associate (Stan Brown) was a great listener and put me in the vehicle that I wanted. He was kind to my daughter too, which won me over. He found out she was going to UVA and called students that he knew and asked them to look out for her at orientation. They did. I financed my purchase with Toyota because I was offered a better rate than was offered by the banks. For the entire 7 years, my experience with the service department has exceeded anything that I've experienced anywhere else. When they make a mistake (and all businesses will), they own it and try to make it right. They don't take their customers for granted. If they tell you "it's free for the life of your car," you can count on it. Within reason, they will work with you to get the repairs done so you can get your vehicle back when you need it. The service advisors provide prompt and clear communication about repairs needed on your vehicle. Each time I've had my car serviced, they make me know that I'm a valued customer. Keep up the good work!" --Aunt Shell

It's time to get out and explore the world. Take a look at this new 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser, available for a test drive today!

Many thanks to the authors of these two excellent reviews! Great job, team.

"I visited the MeGeorge Toyota dealership, to evaluate possible purchase of a Toyota Venza. I was replacing a Nissan Murano. Beginning with the friendly "greeter" at the Showroom door, my experience was of a "classy" business enterprise. The salesman, Duane Bookheimer, was totally knowledgeable of his vehicle, as well as the competing Nissan Murano. Efficient service was provided each time I visited, over a week's time. Without any pressure to buy anything, all my questions were answered." --Charles Welander

2013 Toyota Avalon Gets Radical New Look

Toyota

Toyota has unveiled a radically-designed Avalon sedan at the 2012 New York Auto Show this week and confirmed that the car will hit showrooms late this year as a 2013 model.

The new Avalon has been designed from the ground up to be significantly different than the one it replaces, and is the result of a North American-focused design and engineering effort.

Those stirring lines were penned by stylists at Toyota’s Calty Design Research Inc. facilities in Southern California and Michigan, while everything under the skin was crafted by engineers at the Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The structure underpinning the car is based on the one in the previous model, though numerous structural and chassis improvements were made to enhance the ride quality, straight-line stability and handling. The steering is still handled by an electronic system, though this was also given a few tweaks.

The body structure gains improvements in torsional rigidity thanks to additional welds, improved body bracing, and high-strength steel in key, while the suspension benefits from a retuned MacPherson strut setup with advanced valving and rebound springs. Coil spring rate and front and rear sway bar stiffness was increased from the current model to help improve body control and body roll.

Toyota hasn’t mentioned powertrains for the new Avalon, but since it will still be built alongside the Camry at the automaker’s plant in Kentucky the familiar 3.5-liter V-6 with 268 horsepower and six-speed automatic with paddle shifters will most likely be fitted.

Toyota did mention, however, that drivers will be able to choose from three distinct drive modes: Normal, Eco and Sport. In Sport mode, throttle response is enhanced and steering effort is weighted from center to offer a sportier character.

Inside, a concave dash panel design helps create an expansive feeling. Interior space is said to improved in most areas. Furthermore, while the rear overhang has been reduced by 1.7 inches, the luggage compartment capacity is 16.0 cubic feet, an increase of 1.6 cubic feet as compared to the outgoing model.

Premium features, either standard of available, include Toyota’s Entune infotainment and connectivity system, leather trim, USB and auxiliary ports, JBL stereo sound, and a HDD-based navigation system with 7-inch display. Ten airbags are also offered, along with a rearview camera and a host of electronic safety systems.

"This is our 8th Toyota purchase and the most positive experience yet. The professional, personal and fair experience was outstanding!! We drove past other Toyota dealerships to take advantage of the McGeorge Dealership. We called and were fortunate to speak with Tom Z. about a new 4 runner. Purchasing our new 4 runner from Tom at McGeorge Toyota was well worth the drive!!!!!!!" --Waterbugs6

Thank you for this great review! Way to go, Duane.

"I bought a 2012 Toyota 4 Runner on March 3rd, 2012 in Richmond, VA at McGeorge Toyota Scion. Duane Bookheimer, my salesperson, was truly outstanding making it the best car purchasing experience I've ever had (It's my 6th). Living in Charlotte, NC, I really wanted a Shoreline Blue Pearl 4 Runner-the color was non-negotiable. After checking several dealers in the area, I found one on line through Autotrader.com at McGeorge, I quickly contacted Duane for more information on the truck. He got back to me within minutes-literally." --Holly

Toyota College Grad Video Contest

Don't forget to enter this contest, fans!  Put on your thinking caps.

Many thanks to the author of this outstanding five-star review. Keep up the great work, team!

"I had a great experience buying my Prius from McGeorge. This was my second purchase from McGeorge and it was even better than the first. My sales person, Chris McDonald, had extensive knowledge about the car and used that knowledge to sell the car. Of course, with gasoline heading toward $5.00 per gallon, I suppose these cars sell themselves! But he helped me understand the technology, which really sold the car. I was impressed that Chris treated me with the upmost respect. He was not at all pushy but let me make my own decision.
As for price, I knew there would not be a lot of negotiating leverage, but based on my own research, believe I got a fair price-- it was certainly within my budget, which made me happy. There was very little traditional haggling over price.
The entire process was painless, even enjoyable." --Mad4Scrapping

Great job, everyone! Thank you to the author of this great review.

"Sean Jones, the salesman, was terreific. He answered all our questions and took alot of time explaining the operation of the vehcile to us. There were no pressure sales and went above and beyond his job description to ensure that we were brought up to speed about the information and operation of our new vehicle. Buying a new vehcile is stressful for anyone, and Sean made the experience pleasurable with as little stress as possible. John Ward was also great during the finance period. He explaned all the warranties and made sure that we understood what we needed in aftermarket products. There was no pressure sales from John on any products, especially those that we did not need. This is the second vehicle that a family member has brought from McGeorge Toyota within a month. Ali, who was the salesman at the used car center assisted my daughter in purchasing her first vehicle. He took his time explaining the vehicle to her and what she needed. A first time vehicle buyer doesn't know much about pruchasing a vehicle, and Ali made it an enlightening education for her. CJ handled the financing for her and took his time explaining everything to her and made sure that she made informed decisions toward her financing. Because of our experience with Ali and CJ, we chose to go back and buy another vehicle from McGeorge Toyota. My family's overall expreience with McGeorge Toyota was exceptional, and I would not hestiate to recommend Ali or Sean to anyone who is looking for a used or new vehicle." --Dennis

Toyota Prius c commercial: The Next Level

Watch this and let Toyota show you how to get to the next level in the game of life.

We love making our guests happy! Keep up the great work, Tom.

"First, I searched several dealerships throughout Virginia and this dealership had the best deals. Second, when I inquired about specific vehicles, my responses from Tom Baskin were prompt and detailed. Third, upon arranging a visit to the dealership for a test drive, everything went smoothly. When I arrived, I received no pressure to buy or to choose a higher priced vehicle with options I did not necessarily need. Upon making my decision to purchase, I was thoroughly informed and made to feel like a VIP. Overall, Tom Baskin was an outstanding salesman . . . very courteous, very attentive, and quite funny. If, and when, I ever decide to buy another Toyota, I would consider doing business with Mr. Baskin again." --A. Jefferson

We love hearing from our customers! Thank you to the authors of these reviews.

"New Venza owner here The salesperson (Sean Jones) was very efficient and professional. He answered all of the specific questions we had accurately and concisely. We were brought what I considered a very reasonable offer the first time, with a straight up, this is the bottom line (out the door) price. I felt my vehicle (trade) was worth a few hundred more and 5 minutes later (not 2 or 3 hours of back and forth, but literally 5 minutes later) we had a deal. Rich in financing (we took advantage of the 0.9%) had us in and out of his office in short order also (definitely the fastest and most pleasant experience on that end of the deal I've ever had). The bottom line is the people I dealt with at McGeorge are professionals who have it totally together and treat customers with respect. I am completely satisfied with the folks at McGeorge, and should I decided to eventually trade my other Toyota (2006 Solara), I would without a doubt be emailing Sean to hook me up again. I should also note that prior to buying this car, my wife took the Solara in for some maintenance and was very pleased with that aspect of the dealership also, so 2-thumbs up" --Steve
